Artist File is a podcast that helps artists better manage business.

background

artists are independent businesses. once an artist decides to earn a part- or full-time living from art, s/he must make choices related to finance, human resources, law, marketing and operations. unfortunately, academic programs do not teach these skills. as a result, artists struggle to manage business – potentially jeopardizing their careers and livelihoods.

as an actor, i witnessed my peers grappling with this dilemma and decided to create a pilot podcast that would offer guidance to help them better manage business.

process and achievement

i sourced 10 questions from friends. i then recruited and interviewed 10 guests who had academic and/or professional artistic and business backgrounds. because they not only understood artists' challenges firsthand but also possessed practical knowledge and experience, they could provide savvy guidance to artists.

i edited each interview into a 6- to 11-minute episode and published free, biweekly episodes on itunes, soundcloud and a customized website.
